Lets Fly Away

I wanted to create a dreamy night drawing that illustrates the longing for adventures. I chose a pelican and a baby hippo, a very odd couple. I did some sketch work and ended up with the crude sketch four pictures above. I then grabbed the ballpoint pen and started on the real drawing which I chose to do in 100x70 cm. The bigger the better. First I did the out line to make sure that every thing was in the right place. I then started drawing the wing and the pelican feathers followed by the hippo. I saved the background work til last. Drawing the entire black background took me 3-4 weeks of (on-and-off) work. A lot of work!
